Airbnb SEO: ranking the listing vs ranking your website
Airbnb SEO for titles, photos and ranking signals — and why Google SEO for your holiday cottage site is the channel you actually own.

Airbnb SEO is making the listing easier to find and book inside Airbnb: title, photos, search terms, location, reviews, price and response. It isn’t Google SEO. Different ranking game. Owners who stuff keywords into the Airbnb title and ignore the farm website are renting one algorithm and missing the channel they actually own.
I still want the listing to convert — how to get more Airbnb bookings is the occupancy side. I also want the cottage name and the area on a site that can take the week. They’re two different jobs.
Airbnb SEO on the listing (title, search terms, photos)
Clarity still matters: the place, the property type, what the guest is booking. Stuffing search terms looks spammy and can hurt. Write for the guest, then fill Airbnb’s other fields properly — amenities, description, location. Photos are the ranking-and-click hybrid: people skip ugly listings before the algorithm gets a vote.
Search terms and categories are fields, not a licence to write “luxury unique stunning” six times. Keep the calendar accurate. A listing that’s always blocked doesn’t rank. Reply time, reviews and a price that can actually convert sit in the same bucket as the title. You can’t SEO your way past a listing nobody would book.
Put the useful words in the description and the amenity list, not crammed into the first 50 characters of the title. Guests scan. If they can’t tell what they’re opening, they don’t open it.
Airbnb algorithm vs Google (different games)
Airbnb’s algorithm cares about booking probability: price, quality, location, reviews, how often you say yes. Airbnb says Instant Book listings may rank higher; there is no published lift percentage. Google cares about pages, links, intent, and whether the site is usable. You can’t “SEO the Airbnb listing” the way you SEO a homepage. You can make the listing complete and bookable. You can make the website rank for the farm name and the sensible local phrases. They’re not substitutes.
A ranking dip on Airbnb after a quiet month is a marketplace problem. A cottage that doesn’t appear when someone googles the farm name is a website problem. Mixing the two is how you spend a week rewriting an Airbnb title that was never going to replace Google.
SEO for the holiday cottage website
Unique H1, live availability, fast pages, the name in the title, and content that isn’t copied from the Airbnb description. Direct booking website is what conversion needs. Google Vacation Rentals is another Google surface — metasearch with a visit-website redirect, not checkout inside Google. Website design for holiday cottages is the service page. Rank both games. Own the one on your domain.
Don’t clone the Airbnb copy onto the site and hope Google treats it as a different page. Write the pages a guest needs to book: the unit, how to get here, what “sleeps 8” means, the calendar. Thin “things to do” posts copied from Visit Wales don’t replace a property page that can take a deposit.
